I study the resilience of forest ecosystems by assessing ecological and anthropogenic thresholds that drive vegetation transitions at multiple scales, aiming to determine in which conditions these ecosystems need active restoration.

At the landscape scale, I aim to select models that best describe long-term forest ecosystem dynamics and drivers of vegetation changes.

I am also interested in testing spatial and temporal patterns of forest landscapes as early warning indicators of decreasing resilience such as decreasing canopy cover, forest loss and shrub encroachment.

At the plot scale, I model seed germination and early establishment in different habitat and microhabitat conditions. In particular, I test pant-plant interactions in field conditions, in order to evaluate the net effect of interactions (positive/facilitation or negative/competition) between tree seedlings and neighbouring shrub species across varying microhabitat resource gradients.
