ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY |

The research unit ‘Environmental Chemistry’ started in 1998. At present there are sixteen members, all with a Doctors’ degree. It is organized through a Scientific Board that includes all 16 researchers integrated into the Unit, and is coordinated by Professor Fernanda Cabral, whose main function is to coordinate the R&D activities by promoting regular meetings.
The Unit is organised into two Research Groups, with the following
major research areas and respective Principal Investigators:
1-
Best management strategies for sustainable organic wastes
utilization in agriculture. PI – Professor Fernanda
Cabral.
2- Soil Fertility and Quality: impacts and responses on plants and food quality, and improvement through land rehabilitation. PI. - Professor Manuela Abreu

The Unit is located within the Department
of Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry of the Instituto Superior de
Agronomia, Technical University of Lisbon.
Research facilities available to team members include 5 well-equipped laboratories and a semi controlled environment laboratory with plant and soil preparation areas.
